Big Kids Storytime: Welcome to the Library!

This was my first ever “Big Kids” storytime (4+ years) and I think it went really well! I thought it would be fun to do a “Welcome to the Library” theme for the first week of the session and I think it was well-received. Here’s what we were up to:

Hello Friends
Hello friends, hello friends
Hello friends- it’s time to say hello!

Alphabet Soup
We’re making alphabet soup, we’re making alphabet soup
We stir the pot until it’s hot, we’re making alphabet soup

ABCs
*On the way in, each child took a magnetic letter and as their letter came up in the alphabet they added it to our soup pot (a leftover cauldron from our Halloween decoration collection). We’ve gotten much better at this with a couple weeks’ practice.

The Lending Zoo by Frank Asch

Bookworm, Bookworm Game
*A take on the fan-favorite Little Mouse game- instead, we looked for the bookworm in different colored books.

Dog Loves Books by Louise Yates

Bingo + Feltboard

These Are My Glasses (from Laurie Berkner’s Whaddya Think of That? CD)
* Instead of reading a last book, we took a little field trip to the Circulation and Acquisitions/Processing departments. Kids got to see the inside of the bookdrop and our drive through window, which they seem to get a big kick out of.

Goodbye Friends
Goodbye friends, goodbye friends
Goodbye friends- it’s time to say goodbye!
